Artist Statement

My art is an exploration of liminality, because what I create and what I am inspired by is always changing. I seek constant change, constant improvement, and the unexpected to be trademarks of my work.

I would describe my style as spontaneous and funky. I enjoy using many different types of markers and pens, but also paint. The motion involved in using a paintbrush and the way the paint mixes and spreads are what I love most about painting. Colors are extremely important in my work, as I am able to create an emotional experience for the viewer through the use of color. How I can combine these colors creates a mood.

The process is the most important part about my art. I am the most productive when I can sit down with a marker and just start drawing. I like to create this way because it challenges me and pushes me to think about and make creative decisions quickly with the goal of achieving a reasonable composition. It is almost like I am solving a puzzle, at the same time as I am creating it. Nothing is more thrilling to me than raw creation. While planning a piece is beneficial, I usually don’t have the patience to do so because I am eager to be in the process of creating.
